You can laugh at me if this is a stupid question, but is Mafac the brand or the type? Because it says Shimano 600 all over the brake assembly. I just wish they didn't require so much pull to get good stopping force, would sanding the pads be all I need to do?

Anyone have any idea what year this would be? Can you tell just by looking at it?
