Based on sheer post count, this would appear to be the "official" Downtube Mini thread, so I'll post this here.
I picked up a 2008 Downtube Mini (8-speed) a while back, and have done some modifications, one of which SesameCrunch mentioned might be of particular interest to some of the folks around here.
I'm about 6'2", and I took a bit of a risk in getting the Mini instead of some of the more tall-people-friendly models. As it turned out, my suspicions were correct, and the bike in stock form is waaay too small for me. I knew I'd have to do other upgrades anyway, so what's a few more?
I found
the bars while randomly searching the local REI for other bits. The picture on the packaging showed a twist-shifter installed on the bars, and they were only $20, so I decided to give them a shot. The horky little stock BMX stem had to go (didn't fit the bars or me), so I picked up a
longer, adjustable model from QBP. With some filing, I think the stem can be made to flop all the way down, so that the long stem and bars don't hinder the fold.
Other modifications include a set of 100psi Kenda Kwest tires, a Brooks Pro, and a pair of Eggbeater pedals. Future modifications include either stiffening or blocking off the suspension, and reinforcing the seatpost, which is currently about two inches past the minimum insert line. Erk.
Anyway, I hope this helps.
