Ok err it isn't the FD that is the issue here but the front shifter...the FD is a pretty simple device and even a cheap one is fine. Front shifting issues are a result of the shifter design and changing the FD or the chain isn't going to help a hell of a lot. If you want it to shift better get better shifters...if you want it to be 20g lighter get the new FD.
