It's not irony, it's a troll using a loophole in a law to contravent its very purpose.

Rob Anderson is a known entity here; he and his shadowy lawyer Mary Miles abuse the courts to throw a twig in the spokes of various initiatives. He has a particular bone to pick with anything bicycle or transit-related, and is also a serious NIMBY who opposes just about any residential development anywhere near him (but handily not in black neighborhoods).

If I wanted to, I'm sure I could walk over to his place (he lives a few blocks away) and have a "word" with him... but it actually would be a word, since I don't entertain passive-aggressive fantasies about hurting people who disagree with me. And even that wouldn't happen, since he's not worth anybody's time, including mine. I've already wasted enough trying to argue with him on his blog, which is a guaranteed losing proposition. Like a good troll, he ought to be ignored, but since he has shown he can abuse the law, the solution is to adjust the law to account for people like him.

And that takes time, so for now, we wait for the environmental review to be completed, something the city now says may take until 2009.
