I did that a couple of weeks ago. I installed new (ish) 105 brakes on my fun bike and went for a ride. I was very disappointed with the performance - not at all what I had hoped for compared to the Shimano 600 brakes on my touring bike.

It wasn't until I got home that I realized the quick release on the front brake was still open.
