I am working on a project converting a Sports Tourer into a fixed city commuter. I know, it's not a "restoration", but I figured I might get some info here. The issue is that I have a set of handlebars that I really want to use on it that are 26 mm diam. The Sports Tourer is a Giant produced model from 1981. These used a 21mm quill stem w/25.4mm clamp. Did Schwinn ever make a 21mm x 26mm quill stem?

Secondly, would it be possible to switch the fork and headset to standard 1" stuff. I measured the OD of the head tube w/Verniers and it was definitely smaller than the five 1" equipped bikes that were on the rack next to mine. Will the G-bike head tube accept a 1" steerer and headset?
