I actually learned to ride a motorcycle before I got a bike. I had never ridden as a child in the 50s; I think the big, fat-tired bikes available then sort of scared me.
In my twenties, I bought a small-bore "trail bike" and nearly killed myself learning to ride it. Eventually got to trying sportsman motocross....And read that riding a bicycle was good training.
Bought a bike, gave up motocross after breaking bones, and kept the bike. That was about 1974....
