fitness weight loss, hate driving/subway

2) How often do you commute by bike?
2-3 times/week, usually 6-8 mos/year

3) Do you commute no matter what the weather?
I'll ride if it looks like rain for the evening but not in an AM downpour. weather over 95 and below 35 usually stop my riding.

4) How far is your commute?
6 miles each way.

5) Do you drive a car? Yes
If so, how often? couple of times/month for shopping or a road trip.

6)Does your cycling supplement normal driving chores/trips?
small errands. I am within walking distance for 90% of errands.

7) What kind of bike do you commute with?
MTB, rigid with 1" slicks and rear rack/pannier

8) Approximately how much was it?
$1000 new in 1993.

9) Why do you use the type of bike you do?
Tough, long wheel base and slack HT angle for stability at low speeds and no toe overlap in traffic. smaller tougher wheels and triple for granny gear (good for climbing bridge with loaded rack bags).

11) What kind of bike do you ride for your other riding?
1980s 12 speed for fun weekend rides, 2003 Orbea team bike for faster trail rides.

13) What accessories do you use for commuting specifically?
rear blinkie, locks of various strength and weight, headlight in colder months, bell for pedestrians

14) Are there any accessories you would like? (That exist or don't exist)
ray gun for dumb pedestrians, Ti bazooka for stupid motorists, immunity from prosecution for use of previous.

15) How often do you perform maintenance on your bike?
Ha! Not as often as I should.

16) Do you carry any supplies with you for repairs?
pump, spare tube, patch kit, tire levers, allan keys

17) What do you carry with you on your commute? water, a power gel, change, cell phone, moist wipes, fresh respirator mask just in case.

In pannier.
18) Do you ride to work in your work clothes, or cycling clothes?
casual cycling clothes - mtb jersey, quick dry baggy shorts, touring shoes with bmx pedals.
19) Do you keep hygienic supplies at at work?
more wipes, deodorant, bandaids and bacitracin, cologne, razor, toothbrush etc etc

20) Do you keep extra clothes and shoes at work?
tons of dress shirts, a few pairs of pants, sport coat and dress shoes.

21) How long is your bike unattended during a given work day?
locked in room next to my office.

25) How do you feel about the general state of the commuter market today, are you satisfied with the products offered for commuters?
yes - products are fine...road conditions and parking are not.

26) What factors do you feel keep potential commuters from commuting?
lack of safe roads and adequate parking, hostile motorist attitudes, weather, lack of confidence, poor fitness, laziness, coercion from big oil to maintain status quo & high cost of living, contributing to living too far from work to make riding practical.
