It does seem like 53x11s get uncomfortable in the mid-forties range. So I can how you would absolutely "need" a 56t for all those times you ride high-forties - or of course into the "50 mph" range.

Didn't they make some big chainsets for bikes with 600c wheels? They were on "tri-bikes"........TT bikes.
