Perhaps for that specific helmet and your specific head shape it was the case. Of course with more money you could possibly be getting a better retention system, but then again you are an idiot if you buy a helmet that doesn't fit properly on in the first place.

More money gets you a better retention system. With a better retention system, you don't need to crank down on the strap around your neck. I personally don't like being strangled. The cheap helmets I've seen just have a simple adjustable strap that buckles under your chin. Better helmets have an adjustable band that goes around your head allowing you to snug the helmet to your head. This allows for a perfect fit instead of a one-size-fits-all helmet that really only fits the biggest head size listed.

And yes, I do regularly hit 45+ mph on descents. Knowing my helmet isn't going anywhere adds to my cycling fun.
