I just bought a slew for an old C'dale frame I have, fork, headset, brakes, stem, bars...and somehow I mis-clicked a button on Paypal so funds came out of the joint acct. and she saw my spending.

Conversation was:

"What's this?"

"Uh, I dunno, I, uhhhh (loosening collar)...I uh, yeah, bought a few parts of the Cannondale. It was supposed to come out of my account."

"I thought we were getting ride of the Cannondale."

"Well, I decided it would be a good, cheap frame to put a nice component system on, and I could transfer the parts to an updated frame later."

"Well, you know, we have 'other' things we could be spending the money on right now. I didn't even know you had money. We could use that."

"Well, that's why we have our own accounts, and those are discretionary."

"Yeah, but there are things we need."

And so forth. Turns out the things we need are new curtains. Not just curtains, but NEW curtains, because the old ones (3 mos. old) are not the color scheme she wants after all. Last week she asked me if she could borrow some discretionary monies to go to lunch with a friend

Anyone else go through this? I can't be alone.

yes, all the time. I have my "fun money" and she has her's. Seems that she always saves her fun money and spends from the joint account instead, but i tried that once and she still brings it up.

Also, the curtain thing is almost identical to what I am going through now. Seems that the NEW curtains she bought last month no longer match with the carpet and couches, etc... and she has to buy a slightly different shade of the same color and the funds are coming out of the joint account (with me getting the hint to contribute out of my "fun money" ).

I guess it comes with the whole "i do" and 'till death do us part' thing (I knew I should have read the fine print on the marriage certificate)
