Hopefully you are right. But enough motorist here believe cyclist are only allowed on bike paths or roads signed as bike routes. Sadly, as written, this reinforces such wrongheaded beliefs.
I think you can relate to this: A few years ago, I was riding along Kalakaua Avenue on my way to the Hawaii Bicycling League Century Ride. Just before the police substation, a lady driver tried to use her sports car to force me off the road. She yelled at me to get on the sidewalk. Luckily, I flagged down a police officer who came to my assistance. He detained the lady driver and allowed me to proceed to the start of the century ride. What a surprise that lady driver was in for when she encountered thousands of bicyle riders up the street at Kapiolani Park. Aloha, and let's be careful out there.
