Do I remember correctly that you plan to do a TransAmerica? If so I will say that your home state and Kentucky will be the only two states where being chased by dogs is particularly likely on the route. Another consolation is that I found that as soon as they saw me grab the can the aggressive ones all backed off just out of range. I guess the dogs on the TA have all been sprayed before
I found that at 20+ MPH that I was usually going when chased it was pretty tough to hit them with the spray, so it was a good thing that they seemed to know what it was and wanted to avoid it. Interestingly, with the exception of a pair of little rag mops in Whitebird we always seemed to be chased only on downhills or flat ground. Maybe on the uphills we were too slow to be interesting.
