I once had a women run me off the road near Pearl Harbor Naval Station. Honolulu City and/or state designated the sidewalks and bike side paths in that area as the "Official Bike Routes" and not the roads. As such, they put up “Bike Route” signs and under that a sign that said “USE SIDEWALK” next to the sidewalks and bike side paths. When I caught up to the women and asked why she ran me off the road, she referred to the sign and stated that I was “required” to use the sidewalk. I informed her that the sign only indicated that was a designated bike route and cyclist had the legal choice to use the sidewalk or road. At that point she yelled, “get on the sidewalk”. Yelling back and forth continued for a couple of minutes.
