Are you two serious? If so, it's a case of being so accustomed to the way your fellow country-persons speak that you can't hear it. It's like the people around here (Georgia) who don't hear themselves saying "mah" when the rest of the world says "my". But trust me -- many Canadians in my acquaintence pronounce the "ou" thingy as we would pronounce "oo". You just aren't hearing it. (Although I agree with you on the "eh" part. Haven't heard that.)
