Lately people have been posting photos of their UO-8s in upgraded condition. Here's mine. I bought it from a guy a year and a half ago as a single-speed because the frame was in such nice condition. Over time it has evolved into what you see here. I've kept as much French stuff as made sense and used nicer French stuff where possible. The exceptions are the outstanding SunTour components in the rear and shifters (SunTour Sprint retrofrictions). Only original moving part is the generic (Nervar?) headset which is nearing its end of life (I have a Stronglight to replace it). I'm not in love with the handle bar profile, but it's what came on the bike and they are light, well-made, and nice and wide. Wheels are built by me with Super Champion rims, Sapim Race double butted spokes (2.0/1.8/2.0), and NOS Pelissier P1001 high flanges. I like the old-school labels on the Vittoria Zaffiros. The Wrights W3N leather saddle is near shot, but still very comfortable. Velo Orange alloy fenders (weigh less than plastic). TTT long stem, MAFAC Racer brakes, MAFAC Competition levers with full hoods, Campagnolo Nuovo Record bottom bracket, Nervar cranks (SUPER light), SunTour Perfect freewheel (14-32), Maillard CXC pedals with Christophe clips and straps, Campagnolo Nuovo Record front derailleur, SunTour V-GT rear. The Pelissier hubs spin like butter. A blast to ride every day to work, rain or shine, all year round. Total weight is around 25 pounds (just under) which I think is good for a straight gauge bike.
Here are the photos:
Cheers,
