Finally. Oddly enough, most of the forum members here were
cheering the officer on in a
related thread this evening. Good to know cyclists are well positioned as their own worst enemies here in the US.
I was one of the ones wiling to give the officer the benefit of the doubt pending the full facts regarding the incident. It seemed possible to me that the cyclist had done something he shouldn't have and evaded one cop previously. Then the cop in the video was in position to take him out after getting a description. Of course I didn't know that that was the case, but I wasn't prepared to condemn him after seeing a short video and not knowing what was going on.
However, it came out that the officer said in his report that the cyclist tried to hit him, and that is obviously not the case. The cop came right after the cyclist. Knowing this leads me to think he was just being an a-hole and doesn't deserve the power and responsibility given to him.
I think it's only responsible though to withhold judgment after only seeing a short clip, with no awareness of what the cyclist was doing beforehand. It's not like I'm a cyclist's "worst enemy".
