Crank Brothers CandyTI bearing failure

Had a new set of these installed on my Giant TCR - after less than 2500 miles, I was lubing them (using that little syringe type injector tool and the disk shaped adapter provided with the pedals) when the outside bearings fell out, and the pedal could be moved away from the crank about half an inch - an obvious failure.

I don't get it, really. The first thing I did with these pedals after having them installed was to lube them.

Lubing them is easy to do, and I've done it several times in that 2500 miles, and these have not been ridden in rain or through standing water.

Fortunately, I had a set of similar non-titanium pedals on another bike that I swapped out until I can order and obtain a repair kit from Crank Brothers.

Anyone else experience this?

In my "yoot" I've abused pedals of lesser design/quality without experiencing such a catastrophic failure. What's up?
