Comfort relates more to fit than to what most people define comfort as. Measure your sitbones and pick a saddle from there that fits. I used to sit on a wet newspaper, or sit on an old high density sleeping/camping foam pad and then get up and measure the indentation. There are some web sites that will help you to convert your sitbone spacing to a relative saddle width.

As to bike sizing, I tend to size bikes based on the top tube for comfort, then the seat tube for functionality. I just picked up a 1989 LeTour, pics in a recent thread, and it's a hair tall but fits my torso well, I can stand over the top tube without hurting myself.
