Road racing is great. And when I have the time to raise myself to "mediocre," I enjoy the training and the racing. But at the end of last season I had a couple harsh reminders of the fact that there are people much younger and dumber than me willing to take some serious risks to win the local Cat 4 races. On top of that, if you're not in the top 10, you're just in the pack, and all it ultimately means is that you survived. So I don't know--maybe I'm just over bike racing.

Recently, mainly due to time constraints, I've taken to running. It's easy, it's quick, has much less of an equipment footprint. So I can find a free hour at work and go for a run without too much trouble. It's got me missing my bike, though, and I still like to sneak out for a nice solo ride.

It's started me thinking--maybe TTs and duathlons are where it's at for me. It's still a competitive atmosphere, but a much more relaxed one, and it seems that at the mere mortal levels of your average run or duathlon it's more about people trying to beat a PR rather than getting hyper-competitive and taking dumb chances.

Has anyone made the switch? How has your experience been? Curious to hear the thoughts... or maybe I'm just trying to rationalize buying a Cervelo P2 Carbon. It's oh so beautiful, and it's calling my name...

I didnt read the rest of your post, just the title and 1st sentence. I'll give it a big +1.
