I dated a fella once who identified himself as a republican but had some pretty liberal views (gay marriage OK, separate govt / religion, less tax / smaller govt, pro-choice, etc). I never could figure out how he could justify voting for the current conservative candidates.
He couldn't get past trying to school me on how foolish my politics were, and I couldn't get past thinking he was an idealistic sucker for Republican rhetoric, so we didn't last long
