Three things about weight
1. The sojourn weighs a ton.
2. Racked and fendered, most bikes that fit your description will weight more than 25 pounds
3. Weight doesn't really matter much on a commuter.
But it makes a difference when I lift the bike overhead for the auto rack and for hanging it from the rafters in the garage.
This does not mean that a 30 lb road/touring/cyclocross bike wouldn't be better than the 39 lb rig I seek to replace, but when seeking a niche bike you have to set parameters somewhere. My Tricross fits the bill, but I don't want to rack and fender it, I want it naked for bombing around the limestone paths nearby. It may be that I would be better off with a 30 lb touring bike to double as a commuter/family bike, there would seem to be a large number too choose from.
