To [somewhat] dispute your assertions, sir--the following is my progression:

[1980] Peugeot/Simplex (France)
[1981] Lotus/Shimano (???/Japan)
[1983] Guerciotti/Super Record (Italy)
[1987] Vitus/Super Record (France/Italy)
[1990] M Cycle*/Record (USA/Italy)
[1995] Serotta*/Record (USA/Italy)
[1997] Litespeed*/Record (USA/Italy)

*Custom-built frame

I have ridden steel, aluminum, and titanium frames. I have used French, Japanese, and Italian components. Yet, I have become comfortable with custom-built American frames and Campagnolo Record. I have always wanted, and still want, a Colnago (w/Record, of course).
