I really like the Panaracer Urban Max tyre. It's a good tyre. You can get them from Performance for 15$ or so. Schwalbe Marathons are a classic touring type tyre. They are tough and ride well. They do ok off road too. But they do have stiff sidewalls that can make fitting tough.
