Shimano 600 'Arabesque' rear mech compatibility

Greetings! The Shimano 600 'Arabesque' rear mech on my Ricardo Elite has given up the ghost and I'm wondering what new school rear mechs will be compatible with the 5 speed cluster that is hooked up to it?

I've been cruising http://www.cyclofiend.com/cc/ and noticed a few of the bikes listed are running some newer school XTR rear mechs and really liked the contrast of an XTR with an old school rig so I dug up my old XTR rear mech but no amount of tweaking will get the pulley wheels to line up with the high (smallest) cog in the cluster... Is it because it was created for an 8-speed (at least) setup (call me stupid?)?

I'd even mix my rice with pasta at this stage (my wheelset is running Campy hubs, very smooth), so would consider a Campy rear mech, but what gruppo would be compatible with a 5-speed? Nuovo or newer?

You guys are the best, thanks for your wisdom.
