Dumb pedal question

I have VP117A pedals on my Swift.

I want to take them off and install Grip Kings.

So here I am, mug of tea doctored and ready for thoughtful sipping, "how to change pedals" references open, new pedal wrench at the ready...

And I can't find a place on the VP117A's to put the wrench. All I see is an Allan bolt through the crankarm. Where I expect to see the part of the pedal that takes a wrench, I just see a very short stem, round in cross-section, no straight sides for accepting a wrench. (And the wrench is too thick to fit in there, too.)

Is that all there is? Should I just crank hard on the Allan bolt with my hex tool?

Thanks in advance. I owe you a beer.
