I think it was just last night on NBC's Olympic coverage when Bob Costas said that, compared to several years ago when he last visited China, he couldn't believe the number of cars now on Chinese roads. He said that it used to be all bicycles, but not any longer.
Can anyone be surprised? That's progress.
Even with the growth in auto sales in China, there still are a heck of a lot of bicycles still on the road here. IMO, the bicycle will never disappear as a viable mode of transportation in China, and the dominant form of transportation will continue to have two wheels for many years to come.
