Yup, it really is that easy. The narrow end of the spring goes next to the axle.
Not losing the springs is the only hard part. I understand that there's a company that makes skewers with the springs captive against the ends. I've also been guilty of accidently putting the springs on backwards after reinstalling a skewer.
