New Bike.....Broken Spokes
I purchased a Jamis Ventura Elite last week from a respected mail order retailer. It came assembled for the most part, w/ the exception of the front wheel, handlebars, and pedals. I put the remainder of the bike together, lubed the chain/derailer, inflated the tires and put on my brand new SPD shoes and hit the road.
The bike shifted fine as I tested it up/down my street, it rode great, very smooth and easy. I rode for about a half mile just going through the gears and started to pick up speed. I changed gears and heard a screeching sound. I figured the chain got caught up but when i inspected the bike, I found two broken spokes and a wheel that wasn't turning correctly.
Could this be caused by overshifting, or an improper assembly? I'm not sure how much it's going to cost either, to fix the spokes and straighten the wheel..any ideas? The company I purchased from said they'd reimburse me, which is great, but I'm bike-less for the weekend, which blows.
Any idea what this will cost to be fixed, and what couldn't caused this?
