i recently purchased an '07 schwinn madison complete. i'm not really fond of the positioning of the brake levers. in fact, i'm not fond of drop bars, altogether. i'd like to change it up to either bullhorns or straights. i want to install brake levers near the stems. i'm looking for brands and possibly best practices for installation. he's a stock photo of the bike for reference:
