Bad advice. It may help you mount tires with fewer pinch flats but with the right technique any tire and any rim is extremely simple. No brute force required. The tire lever does the job for you.

The only thing you really need to do to avoid pinched tubes on tire installation is to push the tube into the tire before you seat that section of the bead.

This isn't about being macho, it's about using the right tool the correct way to get the job done faster and easier than without it.
