my gary fisher has pretty thick rear stays and they turn rectangular where they meet the dropouts - I wrapped the stay with some electrical tape and mount the clamp slighty forward than I would otherwise... works well enough. I would prefer one of the skewer mounted units but the price was right. ($75 nashbar unit) - I was thinking of adapting one of the mounts from the nicer trailers eventually.
