Get to Balboa and head north, then take a left on San Fernando Rd or Foothill Blvd (your choice), then right on Sierra Hwy. Not too much climbing compared to Topanga or Sepulveda. From there it depends on where you want to go. Good roads with nice Topanga type climbs around there include Sand Canyon, Boquet Canyon, and Spunky Canyon (kinda steep). Some of [SFVBC's routes go up there for some decent rides.
