What about protecting the chain and drivetrain from all the garbage on the road (specifically thinking salt here)? One of the reasons I'm thinking of getting a FG is so I don't expose my other bikes' delicate cogs, chains and derailers and such to the harshness of winter roads. Of course a FG will be easier to clean after riding, but it has the added bonus of being capable of using a chain guard. With no derailer I figured I could slap a chain guard on that sucker and at least keep some of the awfulness out.

Or will it just get in anyway? Road salt has quite a knack for getting into every hole and crevice.
