Bikes: Trek 800

age of bike

Just getting back into biking after many years of a sedentary lifestyle. I used to bike, then gave it up for jogging. Gave up jogging after knees started to bother me. I know I should have went back to riding but the man chair had such a convincing call.

Well me and the man chair had such a good relationship that I blew up from 175lbs to 253lbs.

I fell off a ladder on the 5th of July and broke my knee. It was then I really realized how much the extra weight was effecting me. Pain has been a very effective appetite suppressant. I have lost 30lbs just sitting in the man chair. With that much weight loss already going for me, I thought it would be good to keep it going. So I figured I would take up riding again, as soon as I can. (it may be another month and a half yet)

Now to my question, I purchased a used bike on Craigs list (just sold my Raliegh last year). I bought a Trek 800 for $70.00 (I thought a pretty good deal). The previous owner thought it was about 10 years old but was not sure. Is there a way to tell from the serial # what year the bike was made?
