I rode a metric this weekend and averaged 18.5 and did the whole ride in about 3.5 hours, wanted to do the whole 100 miles but had another commitment. I do climbing workouts around here whenever I can but only get around 1500-2000 feet of climbing in. I consider myself a respectable climber but nothing great. From what I hear 6 gap has close to 11,000 feet of climbing in it and I've never even attempted anything close to that. Right now I'm running a 53-39 and a 12-25. I would like to have a compact and a 12-27 before I rode 6 gap. Is this a doable goal? Any training tips?
It'll be tough for a first century. You can always do the Cartersville Century on 9/20. Nowhere near the amount of climbing of the 6 Gap. It's supposed to be well organized and a fun ride. I'll be doing it.
