What's heavier...a pound of feathers or a pound of gold?

The answer, amazingly, is the pound of feathers. Why, you might ask...

Well, commonly the weight of feathers is measured in pounds avoirdupois, and such a pound is the weight of ~454 grams of the substance.

The weight of gold is measured in pounds troy (actually it's measured in ounces, but a troy pound is 12 troy ounces), and such a pound is the weight of ~373 grams of the substance.

The feathers are definitely heavier.
