+1, at least for the part about using only chain lube. When reading through Zinn and the Art of Road Bike Maintenance, the author states that if you simply apply lube to your chain properly (put a drop of lube on each joint in your chain then run it through an old t-shirt or towel to remove the excess lube as well as most of the grime on your chain) after each ride you will never have to resort to using caustic solvents to clean your chain. I've been using his method for the last 3 years and I have to say I've never once needed to use solvents to clean my drivetrain. The Ultegra chain I'm currently using has about 2000 miles on it and still looks almost like the day I bought it, and my cassette also shows minimal grime.
For what it's worth, I use Prolink Gold to lube my chain.
