Yes, we live in the South. I regularly meet with the insensitive and idiotic un-niceties of the red neck public. I regularly have disparaging remarks made at and about my person. Occasionally I have a truly aggressive and noteworthy near disaster happen because of the undiagnosed derangement of a pickup truck on an evil mission. I have several fantasies about what might happen. One is where the offending vehicle and driver find themselves broken down on the side of the rode about a half mile ahead, or stuck in traffic. I smile at them, take photos of them and their car and call the police and my cycling friendly lawyer. It might be fun! The other actual idea is probably going to happen some day. I am going to buy a video camera made to fit on my helmet or handlbars and as I am approached and the event takes place they will have no idea that they might just be on the local news. If all else fails I will write a book or an article and evicerate them in fiction. I have been thinking about this way too much . . .
Interesting...I rarely have problems with "rednecks" here in TX. When I do, the extent of it is them gunning their massive F350 "King Ranch" model with twelve-inch lifters (that they bought for city driving) past me so as to make the most noise possible to show me their displeasure.
No, I have found that the Navigator/Expedition/"insert name of massive inefficient SUV here" crowd to be the worst offenders, followed by the luxury car crowd (BMW/Mercedes/Lexus). If I see expensive rims (pronounced "ree-yums") on an SUV, I bump my alert level up a notch or two, as there is a very good chance that there will be a jackhole behind the wheel.
