The same guy has owned it forever, and he has the mindset that his job is to provide better service to customers. The guy has all the odd gizmos from a Phil Wood spoke machine to an industrial parts washing machine. They are friendly, helpful, generous, and honest as their name states. They don't specialize in road bikes, and may recommend specific other local shops for that. Despite this however, they are fully capable of working on them. One time I went in with a carbon framed bike and for some reason had the seatpost really low. The mechanic knew not to clamp the bike in a stand by the frame and asked my permission before marking and raising my seat to clamp the seat post, among other small things. I'm particularly impressed by this as I am very anal about my seat height, although they didn't know that at the time. I do not work at that shop, and the extent of my experience with them was 5 or so visits when I lived in that area two summers ago. I have been looking for a comparable shop since then. While I have found lots of good shops, none have been as good as this one.
Really? I never got a good feeling from them. I've been in there when the owner has been yelling at kids working there. Plus the BD/used car salesman pricing really turned me off. (Every price tag had "comparison prices" and showed subtractions for destination and setup fees because they were free.)
Rochester Cycling and Fitness is, IME, the place to go in Rochester.
