Screw fenders. Pack a change of clothes in a plastic bag. You'll find these 100x more useful if you do it right.
A week ago, I had a meeting to go to in the evening. We were going to take pictures, so we needed nice clothes. I checked the forecast; 50% chance of rain. Packed a copy of everything I was going to wear (shirt, shorts, boxers) into a plastic bag, stuffed it into my backpack, and set out. Five minutes later, it started raining. Hard. I was thoroughly soaked, head to toe. I pulled up to the building, walked to the bathroom, stripped, dried off with tissues, and changed into clean, dry clothes. Stuffed the wet ones in the bag, went to the meeting, took the photo. Just like the rain had never happened.
From now on, this is what I'm going to do whenever there's even a chance of bad weather. It doesn't matter how wet you get if you've got a set of spare clothes and five minutes to change into them. If I'd only thought of this a week earlier, I could have saved $100, instead of buying a useless parking pass for my car.
