Bents tend to attract older guys looking for a comfortable ride, so the typical age, weight, and attitude are not performance oriented.

However, not everyone is is an overweight old guy who likes MUPs. I've seen guys on Bacchetta aeros do just fine on rides with more than 10K feet of climbing. There are also races where a few quicker bent riders show up. Race Across Oregon is one of those.
