do you ride on city streets with your ipod? (on a bike path - with no traffic - is fine)

i see this often and i wonder what are these people thinking. i ride in la, where there is lots of traffic. no way am i going to do anything that will diminish my senses...i want to hear that car honking and creeping up behind me or the idiot who wants to squeeze by.
