Yup, MUPs and railtrails are great for no-hand riding. I through a quiet sub-division where I can go for a block no-hands before cars come (I prefer having my hands on the brakes in case of emergency) Used to be able to cross the train tracks but they tore it up and have just finished paving it, so now should be able to go two blocks.
The rail trail was great though - sit up to have some water. Look around, get out a banana and eat it. Nice flat trail, when I rode it it was still frozen, so no soft spots, but no snow drifts either. Great km or two.
Of course the other day I realised I stood up on the pedals no-handed...
