Use denatured. Rubbing alcohol is mostly water.
I use a masterlink on my chain. The chain goes into a jar of mineral spirits and is shaken. Chain comes out, and is wiped off.
I re-use the mineral spirits by filtering it through two coffee filters.
I wash the frame with hot water and ammonia. No pre-soaking, no rinsing. No residue is left.
