I rarely mess around with department store bikes. If I find one for dirt cheap with some good parts, I'll buy it for parts. If it's in really good condition and I can flip it with little work, I'll buy it. BUT I have to admit, I've been stung that way. I've had some Roadmasters and Magnas that looked good, but had hidden problems. When I sell one, it has to be way less than what it sells for at the store, so we're talking say, $40 for a bike that sells for $70 at Target.
My freind flips department store bikes, but he only does basic tuning and adjustments and cleans them up. He turns them around, but I don't enjoy working on them.
