Thanks for the response. I spoke to two people at SRAM and basically received the same news. Although the second guy felt that if I work through my LBS, SRAM would send a new DD hub to them, which could be used to swap the guts from the new hub into my original shell. Both apparently had only heard of one other axle breaking in a DD hub. Seems like a really odd way to solve this issue, but if they do it for free, I can't complain!
