Dahon.Steve,
Yep, The commuter is a disappointment. I couldn't see me on that bike for my commute. Its hard to go from a light (steel) tourer to a bike with that geometry. I am glad, however, to see that they are attempting to make an entry into the commuter market place.
I wonder how the new full carbon Xenith offerings are going to be accepted. They look very nice to my untrained eye. 15.5 lbs for the "Team" is appears to be right in the ball park. I purchased the 2005 Quest. What a great riding bike. Couldn't afford carbon.
Your right, the photo does NO justice to the bikes. Not only do I agree with you about the photos, but also I'll add they need to finish the site or remove the links to areas that have been under construction for over a year.
The 20th Anniversary of the Dakar FS MTB series is also of particular note. Coming from a MTB background, I really like the new models. Its nice to see the additional choices over last years offerings. Choice is good!
Web site issues aside, they make great bikes!

I am VERY happy with my 2005 Quest!
