The problems of travelling by air when bike touring are worse than ever.
Will bike, B.O.B., panniers, etc. you are looking at a hefty luggage surcharge.
And if you haven't flown into or out of small airports on commuter planes before -
Be aware that there are often luggage limitations that prevent your stuff from being on the same plane.

Given that the luggage surcharges are often $50 to $100 per additional item -
I suggest shipping the bike and B.O.B. from Calif.
Less stuff to schlep around at the check in counter, too.
