I would think it best to just have the best overall fit unless you have bikes for climbing, TT'ing, etc.
Many road racing cyclists have advocated pulling both the saddle all the way back and your cleats all the way back for climbing, including Chris Carmichael. It supposedly provides more "dig" power and allows more power around the entire pedal stroke while climbing at low cadences. Saddle forward is thought to be better for high cadence/speed riding such as time trialing. For most of us who are non-racer types, or don't have a team of mechanics to adjust our bikes every day depending on terrain, the neutral position is a good compromise for all around riding.
